Walk the Dream with Dara

Dara HUOT for Phare Ponleu Selpak

“Jungle Trail / 32 km: like the Bayon Trail Angkor, this event will take place on the Angkor archaeological site in the province of northern Cambodia Siem Reap. This Trail of 32 km will be run on a wilderness routes, through rice fields and a natural environment of an incredible beauty without forgetting the crossings of small villages and in the background : the Angkor Temples.”

You know, I am abit crazy. I love to just walk and get lost in the beauty of my beloved Siem Reap. And plus this sounds amazingly fun.

Why 2,500 EUR fundraising goal?
Well it’s Phare Ponleu Selpak (Brightness of the Arts)’s 25 years anniversary. This will fund study and living cost scholarship for students at Phare. How gratifying will it be if I reach this goal? And plus, I love to take numbers from the sky because my name is Dara.

Okay. I finally decided to train and take better care of myself for a healthier ME so I can continue the journey to Cambodian artists career development and program sustainability with Phare longer and smarter. Thanks Phare Ponleu Selpak team for giving me a goal to work towards. My lazy self has to start preparing and conditioning my body from now on. Mind you, I’ll be doing Nordic/fast walking rather than running. Join me in this adventure if this is your cup of tea.

I have been with Phare Social Enterprise for the past 7 years. I am a much happier person than I have ever been before. I have also learned to give without expecting anything in return. I have found meangings and peace. I learned to discover myself and my values. Thank you artists and Phare Dreatm Team. It is my privilege to be working with Cambodian young people and help them see and reach their own potentials.  Our social enterprise is doing well. We have been employing many artists and staff. We still have a long way to go to reach Phare NGO School’s full sustainability.

I will raise fund to help students in need to study creative and life skills to become productive member of Cambodian society.

I would greatly appreciate if you could help me in my fundraising efforts by making a donation to Phare Ponleu Selpak and bringing awareness around my fundraising efforts. There are no small donations.

Donations are processed through Alvarum. European citizens will receive tax deductible receipt from Alvarum when making the donation.

It is very easy and 100% secure.

Thank you for helping me to reach my goal.

From your crazy and fun friend,
Dara HUOT

What we have learned from Jambok Hoas Adventure and Learning Center

People First, Keep Learning, Keeping Developing:

ការពារ ការស្តារឡើងវិញ និង ផ្តល់ការស្រលាញ់ ជំនួយ និងការគាំទ្រ Protect. Restore. Fund.

In April 2019, Phare arstists and team members went to a learning expedition to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Prasat Sambo Preikuk and spend quality time together for our biggest staff event of the year for team building and learning. We stayed for 2 nights in Preah Vihear Province in Jambok Hoas Adventure Learning Center.

It was a great experience and we really did learn about from both the temple and the activities at the teambuilding learning center. We learn about our roles as Cambodian artists in the society today looking to the past heritage and pride as well as the 5 values at the adventure learning center:

1-) ផ្តោតការយកចិត្តទុកដាក់ សូមសង្កេត ស្តាប់ និងចូលរួមសកម្មភាពរបស់ក្រុមការងារ

Be present, look, listen and participate

I can do it!

Creative solutions! The bigger the problem, the bigger the opportunity for finding creative solutions. For example we started Phare in Siem Reap without money. We survive and succeed. It was a creative solution.

Support each other!

Cultural Leadership, Thoughts

Tradition, faith, sanity, humanity, they go hands in hands

You don’t need to believe in religion to have faith. You don’t need to practice the teaching of religion to love humanity. You do need the ability to trust, to have faith in something, to belive in someone including yourself, to give yourself a chance to love, to think, to experience and to express.

Cambodian Creativity at Phare Ponleu Selpak in 2016

On July 8th, 2016, we opened our doors for a huge day of student performances and exhibits here at Phare Ponleu Selpak. This yearly event is one of our favorites, and a huge hit with our local community. On Open Day, we finally get to show the world something that we’ve been talking about all year: our students are the best!

Phare Ponleu Selpak’s 20th birthday

It’s celebration time for 20 years of Phare Ponleu Selpak – and you’re invited!

By Emily Martin
Yes, you read correctly – Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPSA), the NGO School which is dedicated to transforming young Cambodian’s lives through education and art, is celebrating 20 YEARS in the community.
For such a milestone it’s only fitting to throw some sort of party, and on Sunday 15 March a Gala Event will be held at the iconic Sofitel Ballroom in Phnom Penh. On this night the most generous of hearts in the city will come together to celebrate two decades of giving support to vulnerable children, young adults and their families – and will help with the continuation of this mission.
The Gala event will be raising funds to support the ongoing work and future growth of PPSA. With ongoing support of the many people invested in a bright future for Cambodia, Phare is able to continue providing a nurturing and creative environment where young people can access quality arts training, education and social support.
These services are currently offered to almost 1,500 children and young adults, serving as a vital creative resource for the larger community. We believe passionately in the power of the arts as a tool for human development and social change.
Mr. Khuon Det is the Artistic Director of PPSA’s Performing Arts Department and is one of the co-founders of the association. He’s never waivered in his passion and belief of arts used for healing and transformation. “This Gala Event represents a major milestone for us at Phare Ponleu Selpak. For 20 years, Phare Ponleu Selpak has made an impressive impact on the lives of vulnerable children, young adults and their families who are desperately in need of support”
The event will feature a performance of Sokha, a breathtaking ensemble group of circus, music and live painter performers. The event will also recount the history of Phare Ponleu Selpak, as the show is a metaphor for the association’s origins.
Before the show, the Sofitel Hotel will provide guests with a delicious brunch and following the show, the paintings created through the event will be sold at an auction. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs after the event.
Ticket price:
Adults $25 / VIP $3
Children $15 / VIP $25
